Ta'aloga a le Tupulaga 1

Grey Lynn Park, Saturday 30th January - Monday 1st February 2010. Remember these dates! The PIPC Tupulaga and Autalavou groups from across Auckland met on the sporting field after many years apart.

Today was a fantastic end to what has been a historical and joyous occasion for PIPC parishes all around Auckland! Especially for all the Tupulaga and their families that attended.

Some teary eyed - nostalgic, joyful as the games unfolded. Some thinking back to the days that have passed at locations such as Pt England and Sacred Heart. Full parks of sporting teams taking their places on cricket pitches, volley courts, touch fields, athletics...our children experiencing for themselves what has been a passion of their parents, grandparents and church leaders of the past and present.

The soul was certainly warmed by the enthusiasm seen in all ages and teams during this long weekend. An obvious sign that this was something we've all been longing to have.

A heart felt note of thanks goes to the Matagaluega o Matu committees (North Shore, Owairaka and Newton) - who decided to get the ball rolling. God's name be praised and glorified in your efforts this weekend. We all loved what you provided for us. This is a historical event, one that will help us to continue growing towards Jesus who is the head of our fellowship. As Reverend Ma'afala shared, the real reason for our sporting fellowship is much more than sport. It's about 'Mafutaga', learning to love and grow together through the God given talents we have.

Congratulations to the many people who won awards during the prize giving. Also to all who attended, as the rep from Matu shared - it wouldn't have been successful without the support of all those present. Including our parents and grandparents who supported us all day.

May God grant us more opportunities as such. To Him be all glory - great things he hath done.

Please be sure to leave a comment to share how you found the two days of fellowship through Kilikiti, Volley and touch. Not to mention all the singing, dancing and laughing we had! We look forward to posting more from the Tupulaga of Aotearoa. God willing we will see you all again at the Fono Samoa in April.

God is good - ALL THE TIME!!

  4. I thought the games were cool, the organisation as a whole could have been better. There shouldve been a back-up indoor hall or something if it were to rain, instead of waiting to see if the weather would get better. Also, there should be refs from outside instead of conflicts that sparkup due to thinking that a matagaluega is favouring the other. Other than that, I thought it was a really good fellowship within my own matagaluega, the other two, not so much. Ooh next year should be a fully planned social event for prize-giving. Monday's one, didnt feel quite as special for all the hard effort we as teams had put in. =) Just suggestions. AWESOME OVERALL!

  5. Hi there V. Great to see a Sisifo member posting a comment. Wonderful to read that overall you enjoyed it. You've made some great suggestions. If you're my age - 34 - you'll know that all you've suggested was practiced in the games of the past. Just to help us all appreciate what happenened in the weekend - Matu simply decided to get the ball rolling by holding the tournament. They basically had no budget and did the best with the resources available. All that you've suggested would be wonderful in any sporting tournament and I'm sure a place we'd all love to get to God willing.

Matu have done a brilliant job! I'm a very keen sports person myself and know that what happened in the weekend was blessed by our Lord. The suggestions you've made V will unfold as it did in the past. Yes a modest start - but a start of greater things to come! Malo lava Matu.

  6. man sorry to V up there and her comment but as another sisifo member i enjoyed the taalogas and thought it was great i remember back in the days when games still went on during the rain so the wait for the rain was worth it lol! i really loved the fellowship that went on between all three churches. Maybe next year we will have all matagaluegas so were not all alone on the other side lol. But i really do thank Andreas comment above because Matu you definitly got the ball rolling and getting these games up and running again because God knows were tired of hearing it in the fono samoa as a want and a need! Cant wait for next year, next year our matagaluega can help put our hands up to assist with anything to help it flow even though this year was an awesome start.

  8. First of all just wanna give all Honour and Glory to God for the awesome games we had last weekend..as one of the members from the matagaluega saute,i really enjoyed myself and i know most of our matagaluega did to. Its so good to be all together again. Just to V, I dont know if you have been to taalogas before, but we have never had outside refs??i mean no matter what you do there will always be some sorta conflict at taalogas, thats just how it is,you can put together the best programme and have the best venues but there will always be someone that will have a suggestion on how it can be better?
but big ups to matu for getting the ball rolling..we always talked about getting taalogas started and you guys actually put it into action..so THANK YOU!!and i enjoyed the fellowship with the other 2 matagaluegas, good to see some old faces and newbies comming up the ranks. and yes like the comment above it would be awesome to have sasa'e with us. okay thats me. once again thank you matu! i think you did a awesome job!!! and Andrea thank you for putting up the blog...

cant wait for next years game..God willing we can get taalogas back to how it was back in the days...

    Bless yous

  9. Great feedback so far! Some of you taking the time to educate the younger generators in your reflections too! Even some of our grandparents have been on to visit and leave a positive comment! Keep them coming.

If you have suggestions you would like the group from Matu to note directly from you, you are welcome to send an email to tupulagapipc@gmail.com and we'll be sure to pass it on to the right people.
Also if you have any events you would like to share from your own parish or Matagaluega, you can send your story and pics through to the same address and we'll publish them here.

Remember our Lord in all you do, be it in your daily work places, schools, online...everywhere! God has called us to build one another up in His love - that means whenever and wherever we can - yes even on this blog! Keep it going team!
God bless and keep you all in His steadfast care.

  12. good memories of old, but i have to say that with more structure in the organizing of the tournament, things could have being better prepared but like any new initiative, there will always be challenges, but good on you guys for taking that new step into the future. Ia manuia

  13. Wow, i did not know that there was a website dedicated to PIPC TUPULAGA. This is awesome, a very big hifive to the people that had the initiative to make up this website as well as the committee that hosted and handled the Taalogas this year.

It was definitely a first for all, and whether other youth or tupulaga liked it or thought likewise, the fact remains that there is more positive feedback than the negative. Im not writing on behalf of my matagaluega or church or trying to counter some of the 'feedback' that have already been posted , because the main aspect of such a gathering, is for ALL the tupulagas, youth, matagaluegas and churches, to come together in friendly competition.

It didnt matter who won or who got most entertaining female faiaoga of the Games.....It was all about the fellowship and goodtimes that can only help tupulagas for Christ, grow closer together. So, a big thumbs up to ALL the matagaluegas that showed up, participated and organised such an event, and I hope there are more to come in the near future. E le'i malie la'u voli.. lol.

God bless and I can't wait til Fono Samoa. COME ON SASAE!!!! :)
